Join us for an in-person educational event on integrating augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) into daily life, with complimentary food and refreshments provided. A panel of speech-language pathologists and a parent of a device user will discuss device implementation, parent training for carryover, and interdisciplinary collaboration across service settings.

Abigail Meeks, MS, CCC-SLP is a Speech-Language Pathologist and the owner of Speech with Abby, a private practice in Blue Ridge, Georgia. She graduated from Georgia State University and began her career at Fulton County Schools, where she gained extensive experience supporting students with severe and profound disabilities using low- and high-technology augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Following this, she worked for a private practice in Ellijay, Georgia, building experience with individuals with autism. In 2024, Abigail founded her own practice, focusing on delivering personalized speech, language, and AAC intervention that fosters relationships and empowers individuals to communicate effectively and independently across all settings.

Taja’ Murphy is a pediatric speech language pathologist at Hearts and Hands Therapy Services in Morrow, GA with 5 years of experience. She began her career in Louisiana providing early intervention services (ages 1-5 years) and now services up to 21. At HHTS, she has the opportunity to collaborate with occupational therapists, physical therapists, BCBAs and RBTs. Her work spans from speech and language, social communication, feeding, voice, parent training, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).

Jasmine Adams, M.S., CCC-SLP/L is the Founder and CEO of Speech Glam Speech & Language Therapy Services, LLC, a pediatric private practice located in Atlanta GA, dedicated to helping children find their voice and reach their full potential. As a licensed speech-language pathologist with nearly a decade of experience, Jasmine has worked across early intervention, public schools, private schools, and outpatient settings, giving her a well-rounded perspective on pediatric care.
Driven by a vision to provide accessible, high-quality therapy, Jasmine left the public school system to build Speech Glam from the ground up. Today, the practice partners with families, daycares, and schools throughout Metro Atlanta, offering speech-language therapy, literacy support, and expanding multidisciplinary services to better meet the needs of children.
Beyond her clinical work, Jasmine is passionate about entrepreneurship, leadership, AAC, and early intervention. She enjoys speaking on pediatric communication, AAC, private practice ownership, and innovative strategies that improve access to high-quality therapy for children and their families.

Build Capacity in AAC Implementation Across Environments by Shifting Mindsets
The need to build capacity while supporting students with complex communication needs is critical. SLP's and AAC teams need to deepen and expand their knowledge base in AAC implementation. Having the knowledge in the hands of one expert is not a sustainable model of support for AAC. To ensure a larger impact, we must move to a model that builds capacity. What tools and strategies can we use to shift the current expert mindset? Examples of how multiple district level teams embraced a capacity building model supported by a county level AAC team will be shared. Participants will be encouraged to consider their current state and determine what shifts can be made toward a capacity building model.
AAC and Transition: Life Starts at Twenty-One
This presentation discusses critical elements for a successful transition to adulthood. Does the AAC device transition with the student or is it owned by the school district? Do school age teams consider vocabulary selection for adult roles and relationships? We need to consider the goals of the individual. AAC users participate in a variety of adult contexts from college to the workplace. Planning needs to start well before the age of twenty-one.
Implementing the Use of AAC in the Classroom and School
Do you feel like your teachers are struggling to implement your techniques and strategies in the classroom? This training is for you! You will learn how to better serve and teach your classroom teachers and other general/special education teachers throughout your school to implement and use AAC in their classrooms. Through the implementation of AAC in the classroom setting, children have access to communication through a first-then board, picture communication system, speech-generating device, and more. We will explore the different options, when to develop/use them, and how to incorporate these tools into the educational setting and curriculum.
