Julie Carey, SLP, is in her 20th year as a speech-language pathologist, all within public elementary schools and primarily in structured self-contained special education programs. She has supported a diverse range of learners, including students with autism spectrum disorders, developmental disabilities, and complex communication needs. With a particular focus on AAC, Julie has experience implementing a variety of communication systems and supporting their use across school environments. Her professional interests include core vocabulary, integrating AAC into meaningful classroom routines and activities, and helping families and educational teams develop the skills and confidence to support successful communication.
Colleen Mier, OTR/L has 10 years of experience as a pediatric occupational therapist, with a background spanning both clinic-based and school-based practice. She spent four years providing pediatric occupational therapy in a clinical setting before transitioning to a self-contained special education program, where she developed a strong passion for supporting students with complex learning and developmental needs. Her professional interests include sensory processing, self-regulation, and functional fine and visual motor skills, with a particular interest in creating meaningful, accessible opportunities for children to participate and engage in everyday activities.
