Giving Children a Voice: Integrating AAC and Apraxia Therapy
Many children with childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) utilize alternative and augmentative communication (AAC). The focus of this course is implementing therapy that addresses both AAC and motor planning challenges. Basics of AAC intervention and motor-based therapy will be covered briefly. Factors to consider when prioritizing therapy goals and structuring sessions will be discussed.
Speech Sound Elicitation & Target Word Selection That Works in Real Life
Many courses stop at ?how to get the sound,? but what happens next is just as important. This session will help speech-language pathologists bridge the gap between sound elicitation and selecting functional, motivating targets that accelerate progress. We'll explore: Quick, evidence-based elicitation strategies to get a sound started. How to choose functional, high-impact target words that fit the child's needs, environment, and therapy goals. Balancing complexity, frequency, and motivation to drive faster generalization. Real-world therapy examples that combine elicitation and target selection for maximum engagement.
Modifying Motor Speech Approaches for Neurodivergent Children
Many autistic children with motor planning challenges (apraxia) are also Gestalt Language Processors. Combining treatment for apraxia while supporting Gestalt language development can be challenging. In this course, clinical experience and recent research will be presented to give SLPs guiding principles and clinical strategies to use when treating autistic children with motor planning challenges.
